Thoughts from my bed

I have the flue..or shall I say a mild cold. However, severe enough to be staying home from work. It is actually rather nice to cuddle up in bed with three duvets and a laptop and playing Bic Runga's Birds in the background. I am trying to see the positives in being sick. I must say I am a pretty positive person in general. Naive enthusiast, someone might say in a weak moment.

Life is good. I love living in Christchurch. It is such a great size and it feels more like a large village than a city with 300,000 Crusaders fans. I come from a small town: Örnsköldsvik with the size of Nelson (60,000 in the entire council), so when I ended up here in Chch in 2001 I thought it was a massive city, at least judging from the number of cars and the size of the streets. I know now that everyone knows everyone in one dodgy way or another. It's great and it makes me feel at home.

Home is where the heart is. That is a good expression. I have two homes, New Zealand and Sweden. I can feel that I have started to care less about what is happening up north. I always followed the Swedish news more than the kiwi. Now I must admit that I haven't even voted in the Swedish election which is coming up in a week. I guess I have taken for granted that the social democrats will win anyway, just like always before.

Something that I really miss from Sweden is the spreadable cheese that you can get in many different flavours (see picture): ham, reindeer, chilli, feta, shrips, crab...even fermented herring!
