The city wouldn't be very interesting if it wasn't for Fyrisan, the river that runs through the middle of the city. It is featured a lot in Ingmar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander movie.
Uppsala is located on the Upland plain which makes it very flat and perfect for biking. It is a place where everyone bikes everywhere. I quite miss that here in the car centered Christchurch.
The construction of Uppsala cathedral started as early as 1287, which makes it I would say historic. It is a lovely building and I often went there on my way back from uni although I would not consider myself Christian. It is simply a peaceful spot.

I was so happy to be able to catch up with the crowd I was studying ecotox with at my last year at uni. Anna, Erika, Maria and I had a Monday club: we did some exercise together and cooked up a feast and stuffed our faces. We also spent hrs and hrs together studying. It was great to see them all again.
After a weekend in Uppsala, we headed almost 500 km north to Ornskoldsvik, aka Foppa land. We passed Hoga Kusten bron which they are very proud of. It was built in 97 and is modelled on San Francisco's famous Golden Gate bridge. The suspension bridge across the Ångermanälven river is one of the tallest construction in Sweden so far, and its pylons reach 180 metres over the surface of the water. Pretty cool.

Moose poos
Ant hills
Red coloured cottages with white painted corners (this was an overnight hut)
Cool landmarks: Slatterdalsskrevan located in Skule Forest National Park (part of world heritage site) is impressive; though only 200m long and 7m wide, it's 40m deep.
Views of the coast with the prevalent red tinted Nordingra granite.
We went sailing with dad to Ulvon, since I wanted to check if Charlie could see us getting married next year in the fishing village located on the south island.
Before any wedding planning, it was time for the "barbie". I thought it was a real sight to see Charlie boy in gum boots, bucket hat and a folk beer called "BBQ Lager" in his hand. He merged into the Swedish sailing community beautifully.
We had planned to spend the whole next day on the island, checking out the potential wedding location, reception place, hotels, etc. We at least had the time to see the communal hall which we both agreed will be a great place for the wedding party, and the hill above, which would be a beautiful spot to get married. That's how far we got because at lunch I got stung by a wasp and had a very bad allergic reaction. I have never reacted like that before...my whole body swell up and my ears started closing in. Charlie and my dad tried to find someone with anti-histamine, but we called an ambulance after 15 minutes since it was just getting worse.
I had to take an luxury boat ride to the closest harbour to meet with an ambulance. It was pretty bad, but as soon as they gave me cortisone, I started feeling human again. 2 hrs later my red coloured shrek look was gone without a trace and I was free to go home.
Limited wedding planning was therefore completed, but we'll be fine..I hope :-)
