Easter came and went. I caught a glimpse of the
Easter bunny:

The Easter weather was great as far as I can remember and we spent it in great company with
Dugall and Katie:
We met up in the Wairau Valley to go tramping up the Richmond Range over Mt Richmond and over to Mt Fell hut. The forest was absolutely full of bell birds and it gave Katie plenty of excuses to stop and have a rest. :-)
We had a cunning plan to check out the biking potential of the track leading up to Mt Richmond Range. It looked very promising although it has a few tricky not-so-bikeable spots.
Since we have done a fair bit of tramping in this range of mountains, we have become quite familiar with the views, yet they are still as stunning.
It was almost still as we came out of the bush.
This is a prime track for biking and Dugall is imagining being on his bike.
Views towards Nelson from Mt Richmond:

- I can see my house from here!!!

The day trip turned into a little bit of an epic. At the beginning we stopped lots to eat lots of chocolate and more chocolate and later on since Katie had sore knees we slowed down even more.
Darkness was approaching and a nasty fog was surrounding us as we approached the summit before heading down to Mt Fell hut. It made it pretty much impossible to see the markers until we practically stumbled across them.
Charlie was getting a bit stressed that we wouldn't get to the hut before dark. The thought of using our mini-emergency head torches, which are more suitable for cooking by the camp rather than finding track markers in the dark.
Of course it all worked out...we got to the hut, ate lots of cheese and crackers, Guinness (that Dugall and Katie carried up) and lots of food! What a great end to a long day.
Since the track passed the test as a potential biking track, Dugall, Charlie and I returned a couple of days later to ride it. It was AWESOME!! Not too difficult and lots and lots of fun.
