We left a rainy England to arrive into a very rainy Barcelona. Shit! Bad luck. We grazed in Barcelona and got totally ripped off in a restaurant which realised that we were naive tourists wanting tapas. I thought Spain would be hard to drive in, but compared to rural teenyweeny roads in England, it was a piece of cake. My navigator was of great help.
Having very very expensive tapas..that's what you get when your Spanish sucks.
We drove in the northerly direction from Bacelona towards the most touristy areas. We thought we needed to look for the place where we didn't need to speak Spanish and we would encounter more English people than locals. Actually, we had to drive to Costa Brava since Charlie's work meeting was scheduled for the next day.
We found a hotel next to the Med so we could have a swim in the morning. I was amazed how warm it was. The rain was long gone now. The cold England was only a bleak memory.
Morning glory by the med
Waky Paky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Costa Brava..full of very touristy and tacky attractions
Once Charlie had done his thing, we headed up into the hills and found the most peaceful place, Viladrau, which was located in a beautiful area in the county of Osona, on the northern face of the Montseny mountain range. Back in the hills..nice
The town was very relaxed and we felt like the only tourists there which was very different from Blanes where we had stayed the previous night by the coast.
A lovely view from the hotel room
After a run in the hills, we stormed into a very empty restaurant. It was just opening since we were so early..9 pm. In Spain people eat very late. Most people dropped in about 10-11 pm. We were starving and the waiter took care of us very well. We managed to order in Spanish and I think we got what we thought. The food was amazing!!! The chef kept on coming out and checking with all guests that they were content. Charlie suffered from a very bad laughter attack. I don't know what was in his food. With tears pouring out and no real reason to laugh, he couldn't get a word out for 5 minutes. I laughed more at him... tomato face
Beutiful decor in the restaurant
Time to see some of Gaudi's architecture in Barcelona before we had to shoot back to England:
Our 3 day trip was awesome. I want to go back! I will go back, for sure. ..and next time, I promise to have learned some more Spanish. I guess that shouldn't be that hard.
