Experiencing Innsbruck...a pearl in Austria

I took off on a small excursion from Munich to Innsbruck, Austria for a couple of days. I was really longing to see some mountains after spending time in Holland, middle of Germany and even Munich is pretty flat. Sweden and Finland are not very hilly either, so to get my hill-dose, Innsbruck was a perfect option.

As soon as I got to the city, I took the cable car up to 2300 m to get some nice views. The views from Hafelekarspitze (2334m) were great. I found some cool tracks to run along at the top and explored the area a bit.

I'm so Ronery, So ronery, So ronery and sadry arone......

The sheep were unbelievably tame and I thought about kidnapping one of them (the one with the flying ears. He said his name was Steve).

After a few hrs, I headed down the hill but bumped into two British guys, Pete and Ed, and they happened to stay at the same youth hostel as me. I didn't have any real plans for the following day, so when they mentioned that they were planing to go canyoning, I though -What the heck is that? It sounds cool, and I blurbed out: I'll come with you!!

We went out to an Italian restaurant, found nice red wine and had lots of fun chatting away. The next day, we started off the adrenalin rush by going down the Alpine coaster in Imst. It was heaps of fun and you could get up a pretty good speed by never using the breaks at all!!

A great system for lazy people like us: lift up and coaster down!

Pete and Ed all excited!

They had these bikes as well. I wonder if the person who named them actually speaks English. What do they actually mean by "No animals"? Maybe no animals allowed on the bike. I decided to take my sheep friend to another place instead where they aren't racists.

Next adrenalin kick: Canyoning in Auer Klamm, which was just outside Innsbruck.
Auer Klamm is a granite canyon with really awesome rock formations and a perfect place to play around. It was a hot day and it was a bit of a struggle to walk straight up the hill dressed in wetsuits. We were just a small group: Ed, Pete, myself and our guide Stefan, who was a real coool guy. I couldn't wait to get into the cold water after the sauna I was experiencing in my wetsuit.
We spent a couple of hours in the canyon: sliding, jumping off rocks and abseiling a couple of times. It was soooo much fun and I had a constant smile on my face!! We couldn't take any photos, so these ones which I found on the net from the same canyon will have to do instead to give you a bit of an idea what we got up to.

Towards the end, we had to leap down from an 11 m cliff into the water. I almost shat my pants and had not got the opportunity to catch my breath before the currents dragged me down a 9m slide straight afterwards. I was a bit scared, but had the option of doing it again....no question about it. OF COURSE I'LL DO IT AGAIN!! I thought that maybe then I will enjoy it more and it will have a lower shit-my-pants-factor. I was right! The second time was fabulous! Thanks Pete and Ed for bringing me along and thanks Stefan for being such a relaxed guide.

Beer tasted very well after canyoing.Stefan and I

In summary Innsbruck is a wonderful place. I can't say I saw much of the city but lots of the surroundings and I loved them. I would like to go back and see more.
